Kech Pe Tii

Kech Pe Tii is a Luo acronym for “hunger does not grow old”, meaning as long as one is alive, one has to strive to avoid the pang of hunger.
This program is designed to provide income opportunities for the women and their families through handcraft training, production and sales.

GoSmile Uganda has tapped into the artistry and industriousness of the extraordinary Kech Pe Tii women. The women make beautiful, colorful jewelry from paper. We have developed markets for these individual works of art so that these women can get a good price for their products and this motivates them every day.

The jewelry is made with beautiful beads created from used paper. These beads are made by cutting the paper into long triangles and rolling tightly. They are then lacquered and strung into gorgeous necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
Beautiful hand-woven baskets that come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors and patterns are also available for sale. Each basket takes about 5 days to make.
